Set or Change Your Password

The Metropolitan Building Managers of New York (Metro BMNY) member website lets you sign in two ways: with an email login link, or with an email address and password. This page shows you how to set a password for the first time, and how to change a password you already have. Both happen on the same Account Security page.

The Account Security page, where you set a password for the first time or change one you already use

What you need

  • Your member website login (see How to Log In if you need a refresher)
  • A few minutes
  • Your current password — only if you already have one and are changing it

Where to find it

  1. Log in to portal.metropolitanbmny.com.
  2. In the left-hand sidebar, click Security. This opens the Account Security page.
  3. The page shows either Set a Password or Change Password, depending on whether you already have one.

If you sign in with a login link (setting a password for the first time)

Many members sign in with the Email me a login link button and have never set a password. If that is you, the page shows Set a Password. Setting one is optional — it just gives you a second way to sign in alongside the login link.

  1. On the Account Security page, find the Set a Password box.
  2. Type your new password in the password field.
  3. Click the button to save it.

Once it is saved, you can sign in with your email and that password from then on — and the Email me a login link button still works too, whenever you prefer it.

If you already have a password (changing it)

If you already sign in with a password, the page shows Change Password instead.

  1. On the Account Security page, find the Change Password box.
  2. Type your current password.
  3. Type your new password.
  4. Click the button to save the change.

You stay signed in after the change — there is no need to log in again.

Picking a good password

Whether you are setting one for the first time or changing it, your password must be:

  • At least 8 characters long
  • At least one uppercase letter
  • At least one number
  • At least one special character (like !, -, or #)

A good trick: pick a few short words you will remember, like your street and your first dog's name, joined with punctuation and a number. Something like Elm-Rusty-88! meets every rule and is easy to type on a phone.

If something goes wrong

  • "Current password is incorrect." Double-check the password you are typing in the current-password field. If you cannot remember it, use How to Reset Your Password instead — that flow does not require knowing the old one.
  • The new password is refused. Make sure it meets all four rules above — length, an uppercase letter, a number, and a special character.
  • Still stuck? Email admin@metropolitanbmny.com and we will help.
