Enrolling in Life Insurance

One of the benefits of belonging to the Metropolitan Building Managers of New York (Metro BMNY) is access to a group life insurance benefit through Companion Life Insurance — a $100,000 life benefit. This page shows you how to enroll in, or decline, that coverage right on the member website.

The insurance enrollment section on your member profile page

What you need

  • Your member website login (see How to Log In if you need a refresher)
  • A few minutes
  • The name of the person you want to name as your beneficiary, if you are enrolling

When to enroll

After you become a member, the website opens a short enrollment window for the insurance benefit. While that window is open, you will see an Insurance enrollment banner on your dashboard that counts down the days remaining. The banner links straight to the form. Do not wait until the last day — once the window closes, the banner goes away.

Where to find it

  1. Log in to portal.metropolitanbmny.com.
  2. Click My Profile in the sidebar — or click Complete enrollment form on the dashboard banner.
  3. Scroll to the Insurance Enrollment section on your profile page.

How to enroll (or decline)

The Insurance Enrollment section lets you either enroll in or decline the Companion Life coverage. Both are valid choices — making one on the record is what matters.

  1. In the Insurance Enrollment section, choose whether you want to enroll in coverage or decline it.
  2. If you enroll, fill in the beneficiary details the form asks for — the person who should receive your benefit. (For more on naming a beneficiary, see How to Fill Out the Beneficiary Form.)
  3. Submit the form.

Once you submit, your choice is saved to your member record and the dashboard banner stops appearing.

Good to know

  • Enrolling and declining are both on the record. If the benefit is not for you, declining is a complete, valid answer — it tells the office your choice is intentional.
  • Your enrollment lives on your profile. You can return to the Insurance Enrollment section on your My Profile page at any time to review what you submitted.
  • Questions about the coverage itself — for anything about the policy terms, what the benefit covers, or your specific situation, email insurance@metropolitanbmny.com. The website handles the enrollment; the office and the carrier handle the policy details.
