How to Cancel an RSVP
Plans change. The Metropolitan Building Managers of New York (Metro BMNY) member website makes cancelling an RSVP a one-click action — and you can re-RSVP later if your schedule frees up, as long as the event still has space. This page walks through cancelling and explains how refunds work for paid events.
What you need
- Your member website login
- The event you want to cancel an RSVP for
How to cancel
- Log in to portal.metropolitanbmny.com.
- Click Events in the sidebar.
- Find the event in the list and click its card.
- Scroll to the RSVP section. You will see your "You're RSVP'd" badge and a small Cancel RSVP link below it.
- Click Cancel RSVP. A confirmation dialog asks "Cancel your RSVP for [event name]?" — click the red Cancel RSVP button to confirm, or Keep my RSVP to back out.
- Once confirmed, the page refreshes and the RSVP is gone. If the event has space, the RSVP form reappears so you can sign up again later.

What happens to my guest count?
If you RSVP'd with guests, cancelling cancels the whole party — you, plus your guests. There is no way to keep yourself on the list while removing a guest, or vice versa. If your guest situation changes, cancel the whole RSVP, then re-RSVP with the new guest count.
What about paid events?
Free events — most monthly meetings — have no refund question. Cancelling just removes you from the list.
For paid events (the holiday party, the Three Hands Grand Ball, the golf outing, and any event with a guest fee), the refund depends on how close to the event you cancel:
- More than 48 hours before the event — the office reviews the refund and usually issues it back to the original card through Square. Reviews can take a couple of days.
- Less than 48 hours before — refunds are at the board's discretion. Catering, venue, and headcount commitments are usually locked in by then. We will refund what we can.
- After the event — no refund.
These windows are association policy, not website rules. If you have a special situation — illness, emergency, work conflict — email admin@metropolitanbmny.com or speak to a board member at the next meeting. We are reasonable.
What if I just want to change my RSVP?
There is no edit-RSVP action — to change your guest count or anything else about your RSVP, cancel the existing one and re-RSVP fresh. As long as the event still has space, this round-trip takes about thirty seconds.
For paid events, cancel-and-re-RSVP can be awkward because of the refund question. If you only need to change the guest count, email the office and we will adjust the record without forcing a Square round-trip.
What if I cancel and the event fills up before I can re-RSVP?
That can happen with the popular events. The site shows Capacity reached in place of the RSVP button when an event is full. If that happens, email the office — sometimes there are last-minute drops or we can add capacity, depending on the venue.
If anything about a cancellation feels stuck, email admin@metropolitanbmny.com. We will sort it out.
